Separate an impression from a problem

“We are tired of the old website” and “Customers cannot find the right service” are different reasons for change. One concerns brand perception; the other describes a specific difficulty. Record what is no longer working before deciding the scope.

Check whether the business has changed

New services, a different audience, a more complex product or a new sales model may require a different structure. If the website describes a company you no longer are, changing the colours will not be enough. Update the story and the offer first.

Check the main journeys

Can visitors quickly understand what the company does, find a product, read the terms on a phone and contact you? Start with a few important journeys. Analytics shows where to look; observing users helps explain possible causes.

Choose the scope

Sometimes updating content, navigation and individual sections is enough. Sometimes a new visual system is needed. A full rebuild makes sense when the old structure or technical foundation prevents further development. Base the decision on an assessment, rather than the website’s age.

Keep what works

A redesign does not mean starting from zero. Useful content, familiar journeys and important page addresses need attention during migration. The plan should cover the transition from the old website as well as the new screens.
